    Choose your image

    Upload a picture you made or have permission to use. PainTopia converts it in your browser; you do not need an account to start.

    Set the canvas

    Choose a template or custom grid. Compare Fit and Crop, then adjust detail until the important shapes still read clearly.

    Paint with a plan

    Follow the used colors one step at a time. Rulers and grid controls help you find each position on a physical or in-game canvas.

Work through only the colors your picture uses. Move the trace rulers to keep your row and column in view, and zoom into a section when the grid gets dense.

For bigger projects, split a picture across boards. On supported desktop Chrome browsers, the optional picture-in-picture guide can stay visible while you paint in another window.

A PRACTICAL STARTING POINT

Choose detail you can finish.

A larger grid can preserve more of your image, but it also gives you more cells to count and paint. Start with the smallest grid that keeps the subject recognizable, then increase precision only when you need it.

For the same canvas shape, doubling both dimensions means four times as many positions. Compare Fit and Crop before adding detail; a closer crop can often do more than a larger grid.

PainTopia is an independent project by Rodel Vasquez. You can use the tool without creating an account, and you remain in control of the images you choose.

About the project
Does PainTopia paint the image for me?

No. It creates a reference board and color-by-color guide. You place each color on your canvas yourself. That is why the grid, rulers, and tone steps matter.

What kind of image should I start with?

A picture with a clear subject and simple background works best on a small grid. Use a photo or illustration you own or have permission to use. Tiny text and fine details often disappear when reduced to pixels.

Where are my saved guides kept?

Saved guides stay in this browser on this device. They are not synchronized to other devices. Keep your original image, because clearing browser site data can remove saved guides.

Do my uploaded images leave my device?

The image conversion runs locally in your browser. PainTopia does not upload your chosen image to a server for conversion. The hosting provider still processes ordinary website requests; our privacy policy explains that distinction.
